An Indian court has ordered police to summon sports timing company Swiss Timing to face trial in an alleged fraud involving a deal awarded to the firm by Delhi Commonwealth Games organisers.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is probing a slew of corruption scandals involving Games officials and firms linked to the October sporting extravaganza, which was meant to showcase India's status as an emerging global power.
July the 14th was set as the deadline for the Swiss firm, which has been timekeeper at a host of Olympics Games, to respond to the Indian summons.
The CBI last week filed a charge sheet in court against Games chief Suresh Kalmadi and eight others for their role in handing the timing-scoring-result system contract to the Swiss company.
According to the CBI, the deal was inflated by $US 21 million ($NZ 27 million), resulting in a "corresponding gain to the firm and its representatives by wilfully eliminating all competitors."
Swiss Timing, which was also the timekeeper at the Beijing Olympics Games in 2008, has rejected the charges.
