Former Argentina teammates of Diego Maradona have confirmed his claims that there were no doping controls before a World Cup playoff with Australia in 1993, but say they had no knowledge of receiving performance-enhancing drugs.

Maradona said on television in Argentina on Monday that the players were given an unspecified stimulant .

Argentina drew 1-all in Sydney 1-1 and won the return 1-0 in Buenos Aires to qualify for the 1994 World Cup in the United States, where Maradona tested positive for stimulants and was banned for 15 months,

He told The Football Show the players were given what he called it "a speedy coffee" and that's why they ran more against the Socceroos.

Former midfielder Hugo Perez says players could drink either water or coffee but efender Jorge Borelli says he just drank tea and soft drinks.

Maradona said Argentina's Football Association President knew about the doping but Julio Grondona has made no comment.
