When the match-winning play in the opening match of rugby league's State of Origin series had to be made, it was no surprise that Queensland's champion skipper Darren Locker delivered.

Lockyer threw an inside pass to fullback Billy Slater to score the try thatsealed a thrilling 16-12 victory over New South Wales in Brisbane.

Queensland trailed 12-10 down with 10 minutes left when the experienced Lockyer, playing his final Origin series, rallied his teammates behind the goalposts.

Winger Darius Boyd said Lockyer told them to get the arm wrestle going and stop the drop balls and penalties' and that's what they did.

Boyd says Lockyer's the sort of player everyone looks to and everyone wants to hear what he says as he's a class act and a bit like a coach on the field.
