Unwanted Southern Steel coach moves to Pulse

Unwanted by the Invercargill-based Southern Steel, Robyn Broughton has been appointed coach of the Wellington-based Pulse in the trans-Tasman netball competition.

After four years with the Steel, Broughton lost her job when the franchise advertised the job and she decided not to reapply, having been at the helm since the start of the competition in 2008.

Under her guidance the Steel reached the trans-Tasman competition semi-finals twice, but failed to make the playoffs in the past two years.

Broughton could bring several Steel players with her, a point not lost on Pulse chief executive Chris McNay, who says Broughton's appointment will help them recruit players.

Silver Ferns midcourter Lianna Leota is seen as a prime candidate to move to the Pulse.
