The last corner crash which cost American rookie motor racing driver JR Hildebrand victory in the Indianapolis 500 has also come at a huge financial cost.

Hildebrand was leading the 100th anniversary race when he slid into the wall on the very last bend of the 200 laps, skidding across the line in second place and losing almost $2 million in prizemoney.

England's Dan Wheldon slipped past to win over $3 million.

Hildebrand wins just under $1.3 million.
