Strauss stumped by sudden Sri Lanka collapse

1:26 pm on 1 June 2011

The England cricket captain Andrew Strauss says his side's innings and 14-run win over Sri Lanka in Cardiff beggars belief.

Sri Lanka lost eight second-innings wickets after tea on a rain-affected final day of the first, with almost two days lost due to rain over the match.

The final day started four hours late with England declaring 96 runs ahead.

Two hours and 10 minutes later they'd dismissed Sri Lanka for 82 with fast bowler Chris Tremlett and spinner Graeme Swann claimed taking four wickets apiece.

Swann admits he was anticipating a draw in the wake of Sri Lanka's first innings total of 400.

The second Test in the three-match series starts at Lord's on Friday
