Allardyce takes over at relegated West Ham

West Ham United have appointed Sam Allardyce as their new manager as they set about the challenge of returning to the English Premier Football League next season.

56 year old Allardyce, whose last managerial post was at Blackburn Rovers before he was fired last December, succeeds the sacked Avram Grant.

He says he wouldn't have taken on the job if he didn't think the east London club could bounce right back to the Premier League, although he suspects there'll be an exodus of players from the club for financial reasons.
