Lawyers for the seven time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong have demanded an apology US television network CBS for a report looking into doping allegations against him.

Armstrong's lawyer Elliot Peters has described the "60 Minutes" piece which centered on an interview with former Armstrong team-mate Tyler Hamilton, as either extraordinarily shoddy, to the point of being reckless and unprofessional, or a vicious hit-and-run job.

Armstrong has denied doping allegations, including those raised by former teammates and admitted dope cheats Floyd Landis and Hamilton, who claimed Armstrong used EPO in preparing for the 2001 Tour de France,

Hamilton also claimed that the International Cycling Union played a role in keeping a positive test at the 2001 Tour of Switzerland Swiss a secret.

The demand for an apology follows Swiss laboratory director, Martial Saugy, denying that Armstrong tested positive for a banned substance in the 2001 Tour of Switzerland.

Peters says CBS was told before the show aired that allegations regarding the Swiss race were untrue.
