Stoner quickest in practice

6:14 am on 4 June 2011

Casey Stoner continued his impressive recent form to lead the time sheets in both rounds of free practice at the Catalunya MotoGP.

The Honda rider stormed to victory by 14 seconds after starting on pole in the previous race at Le Mans and established himself as the man to beat again this weekend.

The Australian, who trails Yamaha's championship leader Jorge Lorenzo by 12 points, clocked his quickest time of one minute 42.940 seconds when rain relented during the latter part of the second session.

Honda privateer Marco Simoncelli was next best at 1:43.468 ahead of fellow Italian and Stoner teammate Andrea Dovizioso and Lorenzo.

Simoncelli's performance came after he vowed to be more cautious following his clash with Spanish favourite Dani Pedrosa in the previous round.

Honda factory rider Pedrosa fractured a collarbone in the incident to rule him out of his home race.
