Sonny Bill Williams to concentrate on rugby after fight farce

6:00 pm on 7 June 2011

Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder and All Blacks coach Graham Henry will definitely have breathed a sigh of relief after midfielder Sonny Bill Williams emerged from his boxing bout against Tongan Alipate Liava'a unscathed on Sunday night.

Williams won the fight in Waitakere - which was largely panned by critics as mundane and a mismatch - by a unanimous points decision, and the 25-year-old says he's going to concentrate solely on rugby for now.

There's still no movement on his next contract but Williams says as a sportsman it's good to keep your options open even though that rubs some fans up the wrong way. He says he hasn't had time to think about his next move but hopefully after the Super Rugby season he can sit down and look at his options.

But Williams says while hopefully he and his management can nut something out in New Zealand, if not then that's life.
