No joy for NZ triathletes in Madrid

12:16 pm on 5 June 2011

The British Brownlee brothers Alistair and Jonathan dominated the ITU World Championship Series race in Madrid, laying down a marker for the London 2012 Olympic Games while the best of the New Zealanders on a hot and tough Madrid course was James Elvery in 15th place.

The Aucklander emerged from the water in touch with the leaders and quickly settled into his work as the lead bunch immediately put time on the chasing packs, with the best of Elvery's compatriots Ryan Sissons four places back in 19th.

Kris Gemmell didn't recover after losing almost a minute during the swim.
