The Miami Heat have gone 2-1 up in the NBA basketball finals series after pipping the Dallas Mavericks 88-86 in a closely contested game three in Dallas.

Dirk Nowitski was again in a position at the death to change the result for Dallas but the Mavericks forward missed a long two-pointer under pressure.

Chris Bosh provided the winning margin for Miami on a 16-foot jump shot with 39.6 seconds left.

Dwyane Wade paced the Heat with 29 points, 11 rebounds and three assists.

Nowitzki had 34 points and 11 rebounds in a losing effort.
