Former All Black knighted

The former All Black captain John Graham has been knighted in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

The 76-year-old has held prominent roles in both education and sport and was the former headmaster of Auckland Grammar School and founder of the independent research think tank the Maxim Institute.

Educated at New Plymouth Boys High, the former loose forward made his All Blacks debut in 1958 against Australia in Wellington at the age of 23 and went on to play 22 Tests, three of them as captain.

Other sporting stars to make the honours list include the Silver Ferns netball coach Ruth Aitken (ONZM), former Black Caps captain Stephen Fleming (ONZM), New Zealand cricket star Daniel Vettori (ONZM), the Silver Ferns captain Casey Williams (ONZM) and former Tall Blacks captain Pero Cameron (MNZM).
