Holding Donald to contract would have been pointless

New Zealand Cricket says it could have held the former South Africa fast bowler Allan Donald to his coaching contract here, but it would have been pointless.

Donald phoned New Zealand Cricket's chief executive Justin Vaughan over the weekend to say wouldn't be fulfilling his role with the Black Caps despite verbally agreeing to terms and conditions.

Donald has been recruited by his former Proteas teammate Gary Kirsten, who has just been confirmed as South Africa's head coach, and Justin Vaughan says having worked successfully with the Black Caps bowlers at the recent World Cup, they're disappointed to have lost the fast bowling great.
