The New Zealand Finn Class sailor Dan Slater has made the best start at the World Cup regatta on next year's Olympic course at Weymouth.
Slater got a good start and caught Great Britain's Ben Ainslie on the last upwind leg but light winds meant there was only one race.
Board sailors Tom Ashley and Jon-Paul Tobin are in the top five and Andy Maloney's the best placed New Zealander in the Laser, in a share of fifth while Jo Alley and Olivia Powrie are seventh in the women's 470.
The six day regatta's one of the year's key events for the 30-strong team.
