Katich considering retirement after CA snub

Batsman Simon Katich is considering retirement after Australian selectors effectively called time on his international cricket career by dumping him from a list of centrally contracted players for next season.

Katich's manager says the 36-year-old will spend the next few days reassessing his playing future, after being told by chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch that the opener was not part of their plans for the 2013 Ashes series.

Despite a Test average of nearly 47 last year, Katich drew the short straw as selectors made the first hard call on Australia's ageing and underperforming Test line-up following last summer's Ashes debacle.

Hilditch says Katich's age was a significant factor.
