Tiger Woods won't play US Open

Tiger Woods has decided not to play in next week's US Open golf championship.

Woods injured his left knee and achilles tendon during the third round of the Masters in April, and he said two weeks ago it might have been a mistake to tee up at The Players Championship in Florida, where he had to withdraw after nine holes.

There is no indication as to when Woods will return, but he says it's a matter of short-term frustration for long-term gain.

It'll be the first time Woods has missed a US Open since 1994, and the Masters is now the only major he has never missed as a professional.
