New Zealand Cricket revamps Black Caps selection panel

12:26 pm on 9 June 2011

New Zealand Cricket's introducing a two-member national selection panel with incumbents Glenn Turner and Lance Cairns dropped.

The Black Caps coach John Wright and a yet to be appointed national selection manager will be responsible for selecting the side.

The former Black Caps coach Mark Greatbatch will fill the manager's role on an interim basis.

New Zealand Cricket's director of cricket John Buchanan says the new structure means Wright will be given responsibility for final team selection and allows for greater accountability when it comes to performance.

Buchanan says a large part of the new national selection manager's role will be to liaise with provincial coaches on the performances of domestic players.

Greatbach will also oversee the selection of the 20 nationally contracted players for the next year, which is due to be announced at the end of the month.
