The Highlanders have relegated halfback Jimmy Cowan to the bench for Saturday night's Super Rugby match against the New South Wales Waratahs in Sydney.
Another All Black, lock Tom Donnelly, is out of the 22 for the match in one of four changes from the starting 15 from last Friday night's loss to the Western Force at Carisbrook.
In the forwards, hooker Jason Rutledge replaces Mo Schwalger who moves to the reserves. Bronson Murray joins Rutledge in the front row and replaces Chris King, who also moves to the bench.
Halfback Aaron Smith will join the run-on 15 and he will partner first five Tony Brown, because Lima Sopoaga is at the IRB Junior World Championships in Italy.
