Italian cyclist banned for his own good

The Italian cyclist Riccardo Ricco has been suspended indefinitely by his national cycling federation - for the good of his own health.

Ricco was sacked by his team in February after doctors said he nearly killed himself by performing his own blood transfusion.

At the time the 27-year-old said he was quitting cycling to become a barman, but last week he signed to ride for a second-tier Croatian team.

Ricco was banned for 20 months for doping during the 2008 Tour de France.
