NZ golfers beaten in Northern Ireland

The New Zealand golfers Lydia Ko and Cecilia Cho have both been knocked out in the second round at the British Amateur at the Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland.

It was a day of upsets as after two rounds only three of the top 10 ranked players in qualifying remain in the draw.

The world number one amateur Ko, who was seeded sixth after qualifying, was defeated 2 & 1 by the defending champion England's Kelly Tidy.

While her New Zealand team-mate Cho, who was seeded 10th, was beaten by England's Lauren Taylor 3 & 2.

It was a disappointing end for the pair who held hopes of becoming the first Kiwi to win the title since Marnie McGuire in 1986.

The New Zealand team now turns their attention to The Astor Trophy at the Fairhaven Golf Club from June 15-19.
