Williams to caddie for Adam Scott next week

Steve Williams, the New Zealand caddie who has worked for Tiger Woods for 13 of his 14 major championships, will be carrying the bag for Australian Adam Scott at next week's US Open.

US Golf Association officials confirmed Williams and Scott were working together during a closed practice round at Congressional Country Club, where the year's second major tournament tees off on Friday.

Former world number one Woods withdrew from the US Open last week because of severe injuries to his left leg.

He has given no timetable for his return but says he hopes to be ready for the US PGA AT&T National, which starts June 30th.

Williams was able to help Scott because Woods was absent and Scott needed a new man on the bags after splitting last month with Tony Navarro, his former caddie.

Scott briefly worked with caddie Phil Williams, Steve's younger brother, a decade ago.
