The former All Black Caleb Ralph is set to make a return to Super rugby having been named in the Queensland Reds squad to play the Chiefs in the final round of Super rugby.

Ralph who's 33, played 14 tests for the All Blacks, the last of which was eight years ago.

His last Super rugby match was for the Crusaders in 2008 and he has been playing club rugby in Queensland for the past two years.

If he makes his debut for the Reds on Saturday in Hamilton, Ralph will equal George Gregan's record of 136 Super Rugby games.

His 58 Super rugby tries puts him second on the all time try scoring list, with only former All Black Doug Howlett on 59 ahead of him.

The Reds guaranteed themselves a home semi final with their last round win over the Western Force.

The Reds coach Ewen McKenzie says they needed outside back cover and with Ralph's experience he fits the bill.
