New South Wales keep State of Origin series alive

New South Wales has come back from 8-0 down to beat Queensland 18-8 in rugby league's State of Origin series in Sydney.

The result leaves the best-of-three series at one game all and denied Queensland a record sixth straight Origin series win.

Queensland went 8-nil up midway through the first half when hooker Cameron Smith burrowed over for a controversial try awarded by the video ref.

But it was the last points they scored with Will Hopoate, Anthony Minichello and Luke Lewis scoring tries for the Blues.

But in front of a sellout crowd of over 80 thousand, New South Wales, led by captain Paul Gallen, shutdown Queensland's playmakers allowing the home side to dominate the second half.

The series decider is in Brisbane in three weeks.
