SPARC says more funding likely for Swimming NZ

SPARC'S Chief Executive Peter Miskimmin has welcomed Swimming New Zealand's commitment to implement changes recommended by an independent review of the sport's high performance programme.

SPARC commissioned the independent review following concerns about the likely success at the 2012 London Olympics after no gold medals were won in the pool at the Delhi Commonwealth Games.

Miskimmin says SPARC's High Performance Board is due to meet next week and will consider whether to extend swimming's high performance funding beyond July 1.

But he says Swimming New Zealand's board is acting decisively so SPARC's likely to agree to further funding.

The review's recommendations include reviewing the high performance structure, establishing a high performance committee and appointing a campaign director to lead the swimmers and coaches aiming for the Olympics.
