Vancouver faces a nightmare cleanup and mounting security questions after furious hockey fans set parts of the city ablaze and clashed with police, leaving a reported 150 people injured in Canada's worst riots in years.

The normally sedate west Canadian city is in a state of shock after furious hooligans, including fans of the Vancouver Canucks, torched police cars and looted several stores following the home team's loss in the deciding match of the National Hockey League finals to the Boston Bruins.

Even before the game had ended, fights had broken out in the crowded streets of downtown Vancouver where an estimated 100,000 hockey fans had gathered.

National broadcaster CBC reported more than 150 injuries in the mayhem.
