Too late for NZ swimmers to succeed at London Olympics

A leading critic of Swimming New Zealand says a damning independent review of the sport has come too late to help New Zealand swimmers succeed at next year's London Olympics.

The SPARC report was commissioned after New Zealand's lack of success at the Delhi Commonwealth Games.

It describes a negative environment with a culture of distrust and lack of confidence in the organisation's leadership.

Auckland-based David Wright, who coaches American Olympic gold medallist Rhi Jeffrey, says success will only come through the individual resilience of swimmers rather than the high performance programme.

Wright believes backstroker Melissa Ingram is the pick of the New Zealand swimmers who could perform well in London.
