It wasn't the farewell they wanted but departing Hurricanes captain Andrew Hore says he's proud of his side's performance against the Crusaders last night in the final round of the Super Rugby regular season.

The Crusaders have finished third on the table and claimed the New Zealand conference title with a gutsy 16-9 win over the Hurricanes in Wellington.

Departing captain Andrew Hore says a win would have been great, but he's pleased with his side's performance against the Crusaders after a tough couple of weeks.

He says he's proud of the way his players stuck together while other teams may have rolled over and says they'll go out with their heads held high.

The Blues are the other New Zealand side to make the top-six.

They'll host the Waratahs in week one of of play-offs in Auckland this Friday and the Sharks will play the Crusaders in Nelson next Saturday.
