The Blues midfielder Luke McAlister has all but given up any hope of making the All Blacks World Cup squad.

McAlister who will play his 50th match for the Blues in Friday night's Super rugby qualifier against the New South Wales Waratahs in Auckland announced last week he's joining French club Toulouse later this year on a three year deal.

All Blacks coach Graham Henry's already indicated he's more likely to pick those players who intend staying in New Zealand post the World Cup and which McAlister says means he only has an outside chance.

He says the midfield is already sewn up with Ma'a Nonu and Sonny Bill Williams while he's had little chance to play at first-five to try and push a spot as Dan Carter's back up at first five.
