McVean's London Olympic hopes extinguished

New Zealand's hopes of having showjumping representative at the next year's London Olympic's have all but disappeared, with rider Katie McVean's deal to ride a Dutch owned horse falling through.

Earlier this year McVean sold her planned Olympic mount, Dunstan Delphi, in a multi million dollar deal to a Saudi Arabian buyer.

She thought that was the end of her Olympic campaign but was then offered a ride on an eight year old horse Dutch owned horse she thought she'd be able to qualify a spot for New Zealand at the London Games on.

But when she got the Netherlands earlier this month the horse hadn't arrived from Poland and McVean says says there wasn't enough time to get acquainted with the horse ahead of next month's qualifying event in Germany.

She's returned home and is now is developing a stable of young horses at her Mystery Creek base.
