FIFA vice-president resigns

7:38 am on 21 June 2011

FIFA's West Indian vice-president Jack Warner, the central figure in recent bribery allegations, has resigned.

Warner, the Trinidadian head of the Caribbean, North and Central American federation, was suspended last month over claims he conspired with Asian football chief Mohamed bin Hammam to buy votes in an attempt to topple Sepp Blatter in the presidential election earlier this month.

FIFA has accepted Warner's resignation, and all Ethics Committee procedures against him have been closed.
