The defending men's champion Rafa Nadal has advanced to the third round with a straight sets win over American Ryan Sweeting, 6-3 6-2 6-4.

It wasn't nearly so straight forward for five time champion women's champion Venus Williams.
Williams had to struggle back from 5-1 down in the first set to beat 40-year-old Japanese Kimiko Date-Krumm in three sets.
