Australian Michael Nobbs has landed a five-year deal as India's mens hockey coach, beating two Dutchmen for the position.

Nobbs was appointed by the government-run Sports Authority of India, and his immediate goal will be to help the winners of eight Olympic gold medals qualify for next year's London Olympic tournament.

That achievement would entitle the new coach to a 10 percent pay rise.
