Australian V8 Supercars heading to the USA

1:28 pm on 2 July 2011

The Australian V8 Supercar Championship will hold a round in the United States from 2013.

The championship will be heading to the all-new Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas after a five-year deal was announced.

The circuit is set to host the United States Formula One Grand Prix in 2012 and is the first step in V8 Supercar plans to hold six overseas rounds each year.

Currently the Abu Dhabi season-opener is the only round held outside Australia or New Zealand, but various locations such as Qatar, India, South Korea and Singapore have all been explored in the past 12 months.

The Texas event will be boosted by cable network SPEED televising both 200km races live throughout North and South America.

No dates have been set for the event with the 5.5-kilometre Circuit of the Americas still under construction ahead of its 2012 Formula One debut.
