Reds coach expects running rugby

The Queensland Reds' coach Ewen McKenzie expects the free-running Blues to start with dangerous winger Rene Ranger if it's a dry track in Saturday night's Super Rugby semi-final at Suncorp Stadium.

The Blues have recalled Ranger to their squad following a hamstring strain but are holding off finalising their starting team until the last minute.

The tackle-busting flyer has been bracketed alongside rising goalkicking talent Lachie Munro who impressed on the left flank in last week's 26-13 victory over the NSW Waratahs.

Coach Pat Lam on Friday said both players are 100 per cent fit but wants to fully assess the conditions before making a call on who to start opposite Reds' finisher Rod Davies.

McKenzie believes the Blues are waiting as long as possible to see if the weather provides a clear night in Brisbane as forecast.

Lam has also bracketed backs Winston Stanley and Sherwin Stowers, as well as tall forwards James King and Mat Luamanu on his bench.
