Silver Ferns gearing up for assualt on World Champs

10:02 am on 4 July 2011

The Silver Ferns open their netball world championship campaign against Fiji in Singapore this evening, as the New Zealanders seek to end arch-rival Australia's recent dominance of the tournament.

The Delhi Commonwealth games gold medalist Silver Ferns have had a rather rushed build-up to this years event playing just two tests against Australia last month and several warm up games last week in Singapore.

The recent drawn series here with Australia highlighted the comparative depth the trans-Tasman rivals have over the Silver Ferns, and Netball New Zealand High Performance director Tracey Fear concedes it's been an issue for a long time.

The Silver Ferns clash with Fiji gets underway at 730 tonight.
