For the first time ever, the New Zealand women's hockey team is ranked higher than Australia.

Following the Black Sticks third placed finish at the Champions Trophy in Amsterdam on Monday, the New Zealanders have climbed to 6th in the latest rankings, their highest position since 2005.

Meanwhile Australia's 6th placed finish has resulted in them dropping to 7th, their lowest ever ranking.

Argentina top the standings from the Netherlands and Germany.
