The Springboks says 21 players are on intense rehabilitation programmes and won't be available to play for South Africa in New Zealand or Australia during rugby's Tri Nations.
Team doctor, Craig Roberts, says a no one's been ruled out of contention for selection for the World Cup.
He says Schalk Burger and Duane Vermeulen recently sustained serious injuries and definitely won't be ready but it's hoped others with long-term injuries, such as Juan Smith, Heinrich Brüssow and Gurthrö Steenkamp, may be available at some point in the Series.
The Springbok squad will be be named on Saturday.
The other injured players not available for the away legs are Fourie du Preez, Victor Matfield, Frans Steyn, Jaque Fourie, Jean de Villiers, BJ Botha, Jannie du Plessis, Francois Louw, Gurthrö Steenkamp, Francois Hougaard, Butch James , JP Pietersen (back), Tendai Mtawarira, Bryan Habana and Bakkies Botha.
