The New Zealand shot-putter Valerie Adams has beaten arch rival Nadezhda Ostapchuk in the Diamond League athletics meeting in Paris, recording her best result this year.

The reigning Olympic, world and Commonwealth champion threw a massive 20.78 metres, her best shot this year and 29 centimetres better than the Belarusian.

Adams now has two victories from two meetings over Ostapchuk in 2011.

The win was the second outstanding shot put result for New Zealand in 24 hours following Jacko Gills World youth championship victory yesterday.
