9:29 am on 10 July 2011

The New Zealand rowing team has put 10 of its 14 crews into A finals tonight at the World Cup Regatta in Lucerne, in Switzerland.

New Zealand once again showed its pace-setting class in the small boats with Emma Twigg, the world champion men's pair of Eric Murray and Hamish Bond, the women's world champions Rebecca Scown and Juliette Haigh, the women's double scull of Fi Paterson and Anna Reymer and the men's heavyweight and lightweight double sculls of Nathan Cohen and Joseph Sullivan and Storm Uru and Peter Taylor all having impressive wins in their semi-finals.

The exciting new women's quad also won the repechage to book its place in the A final.

There was good news too for the men's quad and the men's four, both of whom sealed places in what will be world class A finals with great rows in the semis.

Mahé Drysdale also made it through to the main event with a solid second place behind world champion Ondrej Synek. They will line up with Lassi Karonen, Olaf Tufte, and Kenneth Jurkowski of the USA and in what should be a great single sculling final.

With the packed fields, several of the A finals were run towards the end of rowing on Saturday, with New Zealanders competing in the non-Olympic classes.

Lightweight single sculler Duncan Grant taking the bronze and lightweight pair James Lassche and Graham Oberlin Brown finished fifth in a big and talented field.
