The New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter has surpassed one of the major milestones in baseball, passing 3000 hits in the major Leagues.

Jeter had 5 hits from 5 appearances at the plate including the game winning hit over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Jeter became the 28th Major League Baseball player and first Yankee to reach the milestone.

37 year old Jeter, who has struggled this season and just returned from injury, became the first major league player to reach the mark since Craig Biggio did it with the Houston Astros in June 2007.

He became the fourth youngest player to reach the milestone, behind only Ty Cobb (34), Hank Aaron (36) and Robin Yount (36), and is the 11th member of the esteemed group to have collected all his hits for one team.
