Team NZ secures technology boost

The America's Cup challenger Team New Zealand hopes a new computer deal will close a technology gap that may have cost them victory four years ago.

American computer-maker Dell will provide the brainiest private sector computer in the country as the team designs its high-tech catamaran for the 2013 regatta.

The team's managing director Grant Dalton says underspending on technology in Valencia showed in its loss to Alinghi, and the new system will allow them to foot it with the best.

Grant Dalton says the 700 kilogramme computer will allow them to test hundreds of thousands of design variations over the next year.
