Gasnier calls time on NRL career

The St George Illawarra centre Mark Gasnier is retiring from rugby league at the end of the NRL season.

Gasnier, who will turn 30 next week, says he made up his mind at the start of the year as he didn't have the drive to play next year although he had three years to go on his contract with the reigning premiers.

He played 15 Tests for Australia between 2001 and 2008 as well as 12 State of Origin matches for New South Wales, including the most recent series which Queensland won.

Gasnier returned to the NRL last season after a two-year stint in French rugby with Stade Francais.
