The Polish racing driver Robert Kubica, who was seriously injured in a rally in February, is determined to be back for the 2012 Formula One season and may even be on the grid for the final race of the 2011 series in Brazil.

Kubica's right hand was partially severed in the crash in northern Italy when he hit a safety barrier and had to be cut free from his car.

He also suffered serious injuries to his shoulder and leg.

Kubica insisted that the crash had not left any psychological scars and that he was recovering physically.

The 26-year-old says he would have no problem clambering back behind the wheel of his car - and that he had been practising on simulators.
