A magic run of three birdies in the final three holes has New Zealand golfer Michael Hendry only three shots back from the lead heading into the final round of the Indonesian Open on the One Asia Tour.
The defending champion, who opened with a superb seven under par 65 in round one, had a hot finish to card a three under par 69 and get within striking distance of leader Thaworn Wiratchant.
Hendry is looking to retain the title that propelled him to international prominence in his breakthrough season of 2010.
He had a disappointing start to round three with bogeys and the third and fourth but responded well with a superb four under par back nine to keep his title hopes alive in the US $1million event.
The North Harbour professional has been solid but not spectacular in 2011 and defending his title in Jakarta would be his first win since tasting victory there 12 months ago.
Fellow Kiwi Gareth Paddison had a fine five under par 67 in round three that propelled him to a share of 10th place and eight shots back from the leader.
Brad Shilton had a four over par 76 to be three over for the tournament in a share of 64th place heading into the final round.
Meantime in Ohio at the Chiquita Classic on the Nationwide Tour, Brad Iles has bounced back into contention with a five under par 67 in round three.
The Tauranga professional is in a share of 22nd place only four shots back from the leaders Scotland's Russell Knox and American B J Staten.
Danny Lee on his return to the Nationwide Tour climbed from a share of 56th place to T34th as he also shot a five under par 67.
Lee is currently in 19th place on the Nationwide Tour Order of Merit - with the top 25 qualifying for the PGA Tour - has recovered well from a wrist injury.
He made six birdies and a bogey to climb the leaderboard.
Josh Geary, 39th on the standings, shot an even par 72 to drop from 17th to 46th place and Tim Wilkinson had a 73 to fall to a share of 51st.
