The Kazakh rider Alexandre Vinokourov has announced his retirement from professional cycling after breaking his thigh in a massive pileup on the Tour de France a week ago.

This was going to be his last tour, but after his crash he had second thoughts about returning for another try next year.

37 year old Vinokourov is expected to become manager of the Astana team next season.

In the meantime, he's tipping the Australian Cadel Evans to win this years tour.
