Cath Cheatley pulls plug on her US season

Injuries have forced the leading New Zealand road cyclist Catherine Cheatley to end her season in the United States.

The 28-year-old US National Series champion will return to Wanganui next week to continue her rehabilitation and prepare for next year's Olympic Games in London.

Cheatley, who won two races at the start of the US season, has crashed twice since, fracturing her pelvis and hip in the last one.

She's also had problems with a wisdom tooth and has decided it's best to return to New Zealand.

She says it's really disappointing as she was in great shape to defend her US title, after winning the New Zealand road championship in January.
