Open champion donates medal to his home club

The golfer of the moment Darren Clarke has presented his British Open gold medal to his home club, Royal Portrush, where it sits alongside the medal won by Northern Ireland's last Open champion, Fred Daly in 1947.

Clarke has reiterated his appeal to Royal and Ancient officials to stage the Open again at Royal Portush, which hosted the 1951 championship.

Clarke rates the course as good as any on the Open championship rota.

Northern Ireland's Tourism Minister has suggested that a successfully staged Irish Open at Royal Portrush would boost the chances of the British Open returning.
