Hoeata to make All Black debut

1:20 pm on 20 July 2011

The Highlanders lock Jared Hoeata will make his Test rugby debut against Fiji in Dunedin on Friday night and team-mate Colin Slade will start at first-five.

It'll be Slade's first start at number 10 with Dan Carter on the bench for the Clash for Canterbury earthquake fundraiser at Carisbrook

Slade will be outside another Highlander Jimmy Cowan while Hoeata will be in the second row with 61-Test All Blacks veteran Ali Williams, who's back for the first time since November 2008 after recovering from Achilles tendon injuries..

Others to return are the Crusaders prop Wyatt Crockett, who's starting, and Highlanders wing Ben Smith, who's on the bench.

Richie McCaw will captain the side with Liam Messam at number eight and Adam Thomson on the other side of the scrum, Andrew Hore at hooker and Ben Franks at tighthad prop.

Conrad Smith and Ma'a Nonu are reunited in the midfield, the wings are Sitiveni Sivivatu and Zac Guildford and Mils Muiliana's at fullback.

Coach Graham Henry says Fiji were competitive in the recent Pacific Nations Cup so the All Blacks will have to be clinical.

Henry says Samoa's win over Australia shows that if the All Blacks underestimate Fiji, they do so at their peril.

The other reserves are Corey Flynn,John Afoa, Sam Whitelock, Jerome Kaino and Piri Weepu.

Cory Jane, Richard Kahui, Tony Woodcock, Isaia Toeava, Hosea Gear and Israel Dagg weren't considered because of injuries.
