Cameron drops Vea

The New Zealand boxer Shane Cameron has produced a near perfect 12th round finish to wrench the Commonwealth cruiserweight title away from Australian Dominic Vea in Sydney.

But Cameron's hopes the win would give him a chance to fight Danny Green for the IBO cruiserweight title didn't last long with the Australian losing to the veteran Antonio Tarver.

That bout was stopped in the ninth round, the 42-year-old American knocking down Green in the second round and again in the ninth to add the title to his four light heavyweight titles.

Earlier Cameron appeared to have the edge for most of the fight, apart from the 10th and 11th rounds where Vea produced big punches in his first defence.

Cameron landed three thunderous right hand blows and a powerful left in the 12th though and Vea's corner stopped the fight.

Cameron, whose only losses were at heavyweight against Friday Ahunanya and David Tua, said he didn't realise how tough Vea was going to be be to beat.
